World of Warcraft Item Upgrades Item upgrades can be used to improve the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade, it can increase the rarity of an item or mark Level and increase other stats. Upgrading gear in The War Within requires a certain number of Flightstones and Crests and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a specific amount. Item Level When an item gets upgraded, its stats are increased in value. This is the sum of all its upgraded advantages (attack magic attack, attack defense). The cost of upgrading items can be high, depending on the upgrader and what kind of upgrade you decide to make. This is because of how many perks have to be replaced in order for the item to get upgraded. It is also used as a gating requirement when waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It can also be used to limit the amount of PvP gear players are able to wear as PvP is restricted at lower levels. Players can view their average item level in their character sheet. When deciding whether to buy or sell equipment players can look at the item level. It's a sign of the item's condition and quality. Comparing items from the inventory of a seller can be done using the item's level. The level of the item can be viewed by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will show the item's full description, including ilvl. It is also accessible by hovering over an item with the mouse cursor and typing /itemlevel in chat. There are a few theories on how the calculation of the item's level is made. One theory says that the level of an item is determined by formulas that determine the value of an item's stats really are. It considers the fact that various perks have different value and gems in sockets add to the overall value of the item. This can lead to an item's ilvl calculated, which is typically very close to Blizzard's real item level. This procedure will cost the player a specific amount of gold and items which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same way as other options for rerolling. Players can upgrade an item with specific stats, or reroll the affixes. The possible stat ranges for an item are based on the level of the item, but all items are guaranteed to have at least one stat within that range, unless it is an item that is unique or an item that is a God roll from a boss in a raid. Another thing that could be changed is the option to upgrade equipment without having to roll the affixes, or choose which stats to increase. But as with base equipment, this would need to be performed on a per-item basis, and the item compare interface wouldn't show all possible stats either lost or gained at the same time. Item Luck The Luck stat of a player boosts the likelihood of locating items and the properties that are generated by loot, and the strength of these properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or ability to upgrade items. It gives players an opportunity to get better equipment earlier in the game. This is more advantageous in early game runs because players tend to put weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains. In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the probability of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading that increase with each level of the item. item upgrades can also be increased with the use of anti-materials, such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing. Weapons, armor, and shields can spawn or be crafted using the Luck property, with a default value of 40. These items can be improved by using golden ingots or spined leather (depending on their material type) for a further +40 luck, or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140. Certain items, like the weapon with Hollow-infused components can also be crafted to increase the damage of any skill that is able to deal damage by 5percent. These items are available from the shop or crafted using the right ingredients. Item Failure Upgrades to items can be a costly process and not every upgrade will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to boost the chances of success for an upgrade or to stop players from losing their items if it is not successful. The rate of success of an upgrade can be seen in the Honing UI. The percentage indicates the probability of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limits to how much the success rates can be improved and the chance of an upgrade failing can't exceed 100%.. The success of an can be affected by the Luck of that item. Every item has an initial success rate of 25%, and each item with Luck increases that chance by five percent. The upgrade overlays of the item are rendered above items in the inventory. This may obscure enchantment effects and other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
